Watery boudoir

The waterfall of our garden pond. The pond is crystal clear at this time of the year, especially since I spent a couple of energetic hours removing a vigorous reed plant, whose root ball had enveloped much of the bed of the pond, as well as the underwater pump. I spotted a dead frog the other day, lying on the bottom, pale belly upwards, and feet pointing to the surface. As I hauled in it out with fishing net, it was clear that something was attempting to throttle the creature, its arms still visible around the frog’s neck. As it rose clear of the water, it was clear that I had disturbed a mating, and very much alive, couple, the smaller male hanging on to the female, who for some reason and chosen an interesting position. The male looked somewhat disgruntled, and I discretely lowered them back into the water, before I realised that I had missed a photo opportunity. By the time I returned with my camera, the pair had disappeared to find somewhere a bit more private. Well, under the circumstances, wouldn’t you?
Talk about spoiling the moment!!! So funny, think I am pleased not to have seen a photo of such an intimate moment. This waterfall effect is beautiful.

ha ha, saw a similar thing in our pond a couple of years ago! love the bubbles on the water :)

Our water is a little cloudy at the moment, still trying to work out why, think we might have to clear out the actual filter sponges, as the water is flowing well and the pump grating is clear
