Photography on the hoof

@shepherdmanswife is not comfortable with cows. She has never been comfortable with cows, and her reservations were confirmed a few years ago when we, with our dog at the time, were following a footpath that went through a herd of cows with calves - the dangers of this were not publicised then as much as in recent years. We were attacked, and only escaped because gardens backed onto the field, and one of these provided an escape route. Since then @shepherdmanswife has refused to cross a field of bovines, even when they are harmless, if curious, bullocks. Imagine my surprise when she not only accepted a friend’s offer to come and photograph bullocks and heifers on his farm, but @shepherdmanswife was happy to get quite intimately acquainted in the interests of her art.
Great shot and story. When I first saw this shot my thoughts were wow she is brave and trusting. Now having read the story it makes the shot even more interesting. Nice post!

Great capture, very brave of @shepherdmanswife to go into that field. I am not very fond of bovines myself

That is courage. As much as I love cows, I would not want to be where she is.

Really great capture and a lovely story

What a fabulous capture! Chantal looks like she's giving a talk to the cows and they are a rapt audience!

Great shot to show what a scary position I was in to take the photos. See @shepherdmanswife/more/2014-05-04 to see one of the photos taken.

We have some new heifers in a field with a footpath through. It is like playing grandmas footsteps, or what's the time mr wolf? They are only curious but mainly of the dog. Great shot.

Haha! I saw the shot in question, and thought how brave. Now I think she is mad! Not too fond of cows myself. Interesting that bullocks are harmless. Mmm

Wow, the lengths we go to for art! She's braver than I would be - and I was never attacked by a cow!

This shot is really lovely - and the story is great - yes, stay away from cows with calves. Fav

Looks like she is providing entertainment for them. Great how they are standing all lined up except for one!

great capture, love the story behind it.

Awesome shot. She must be very brave to overcome her experience and just sit down an arm's length from those bovines. I wouldn't have done that for a thousand euros.

Great shot, love the story and good for facing her fears. Cows freak me out too but luckily never been attacked by them! Glad no one was hurt today :-)

Braver than me - we too were chased across a field by a heard of cows. We thought a path we were following crossed the field and out, but it didn't, it was a dead end and when we came back across, the cows had come to greet us. We had a dog with us and the lead cow charged at us, stopping just in front as it skidded in the mud. Not nice at all. I think your wife is very brave, far braver than my wife and me.
