I was ready for it. I had seen it in the distance while out with the dogs, and kept the dogs close as we rounded the corner of the grassy field boundary. It disappeared into the long grass only to appear against one of our neighbour’s fences overlooking the fields. It leaped up onto the fence, a perfect shot, but still a bit too distant. I made the dogs lie down and wait, while I stalked it alone, camera at the ready. As I crept closer it turned towards me, ready for flight. I slowly raised my camera, finger on the shutter. It flew. I clicked. I missed. It disappeared. I will get Percy, our local pheasant, one day.
Great focus on the tail... wonder what the face looked like....I had a very close up the other day of a pheasant when it flew up over the bonnet and swooped up the windscreen.. he lived to tell the tale,,
