Our usual route up Croft Hill is over the style onto the open field, and then follow one of the tracks that lead to the top, with views across the countryside as we ascend. Sometimes, for a bit of variety, we follow the path leads around the bottom of the hill, through a small patch of woodland. In the morning this leads to the sunny side of the hill, with dappled sunlight and sometimes just a hint of mist. The path gently undulates, a gently start to the day, but aerobic exercise is what is needed at our age, and so we generally take another track and on the far side of the copse, which leads sharply upward to the trig point on top of the hill, a steep climb that makes the heart race. By the time we are admiring the view in all directions we are glowing and fully awake, ready to face the day.
