Lots of catkins in the hedgerows at the moment. I always think that catkins are a bit of a tease - I associate them with spring, but of course when catkins first appear we are barely past mid-winter. I have noticed that bird song is getting louder though. This morning a particularly melodic songster was particularly enthusiastic on a branch high above us, a finch of some sort, I think. Further down the path a large "murder" of crows flew over, filling the air with their rasping caws. And if you look carefully at this image, you will see a tiny leaf bud. Nature is at least preparing for spring.
