I think that we take pheasants for granted, because we see them so often. They appear in our garden, in the fields around our home, and the dogs get excited when they smell them hidden in the undergrowth along our walks (sometimes "putting them up", as the bird suddenly flies up with a startling clatter of wings and loud squawking). The male bird really is gorgeously plumed, and maybe we should show more appreciation of it's exotic appearance.
Yes they really are very beautiful - even the less colourful female. This is such a handsome chap. What amuses me is that despite their beauty and poise they look utterly ridiculous when they run away along the ground darting to and fro, legs and wings all over the place. I think they sonetims forget they can actually fly!
