From February I start looking for signs of spring. The first signs are snowdrops and yellow blooms of a witch hazel in the garden, then green buds on hawthorne hedges, daffodils and catkins. When the blackthorn blossom appears I feel that winter really is behind us. We haven't yet got the masses of blooms turning hedgerows into frothy white, but it won't be long.
