This is definitely a city ruled by cars, and people would often rather drive three blocks down the street than use their own two feet to get there. I miss walking though I can understand why it's hard to do in LA given the sprawl and the lack of lighting/storefronts/other people on most streets. Now that I live in a relatively walkable part of town, I've been making efforts to ditch my car when I can.
