Compare IPhone XR with iPhone 12Pro

Hardly a fair compare. The XR does not have the triple cameras. The XS and the 11 do. The camera app in the XR does have Portrait Mode, but I can’t see anything portrait about it. I’m going to try night shots next.
Great portrait and fascinating to see the comparisons

Portrait mode creates great DOF. If you go to the edit mode you can actually adjust the DOF on the sliding scale. It's kind of cool.

I went from an iPhone 8 Plus to the iPhone 12 pro max. The only difference I see is improved indoor and low light photos. Maybe distance is a little clearer. I actually don’t understand why the 3 cameras because you can manually zoom in and out.

Lovely portrait, I notice that the colour comes out different.

@gardenfolk If you manually zoom beyond 2X (I think the max gets 2.5X), then you are actually cropping and you lose resolution. It is usually better to crop after you take the photo so you can do it more carefully....but still lose resolution either way. @kwind

@kwind Thanks works really well.

@ludwigsdiana The 12 has a bigger sensor which is like a greater ISO range. I think that is why the color is better.

A fun way to learn about your new phone.

On my iPhone Se 2020, the portrait mode focuses on the figure and puts everything in the background out of focus, which is interesting. It also gives you a choice of various light settings - natural, studio etc. Always interesting to compare

Difficult to compare I think....
