Mum. Stairs. Now

Archie Bunker...he doesn't do stairs.

Soooo, I'm going to the UK!!! Manchester/Leeds area mainly. Hoping to hit Liverpool and Blackpool as well.
Our aim is to see as much history as possible in a 5 day stretch and I'm already cross eyed from googling everything! If you're from that neck of the woods and you've got any suggestions, let me know!
The.most.adorable.thing.ever!! Super cute photo!!

Soooo cute! My ancestors are from Liverpool - I haven't been in years but there are some very interesting museums there now that opi would love to visit one day. It was a huge port with people leaving and arriving from all over the world in Victorian times. My relatives were variously in the Royal and a Merchant Navies as well as being a policeman/fireman in a very rough area. Still some rough areas so watch where you go! And don't forget The Beatles! @fueast can tell you stuff about Leeds.

I forgot I went to University in Manchester - some great art galleries and you can learn a lot of its history on a tour of the Midland Hotel (weirdly!) Quarry Bank Mill gives you a good idea about what the rest of my ancestors were doing with their lives (cotton mill).

@judithg I was so hoping to make it down to Cambridge! I'd LOVE to see where you are but it's way too far for such a short trip. I have a pinterest board started and so far Manchester has lots to offer. My daughter is SUPER excited to go to John Ryland's library and the other one...who's name is escaping me at the moment but is apparently the oldest library in the English speaking world. I'm already trying to figure out camera settings for such dark places and I really don't want to bring my tripod. I can already tell you that my family is going to get fed up with me!!
I've contacted @happypat for a place to stay but it looks like she's all booked up, which is very disappointing. @fueast is out of town till the 29th and I think that works out perfect, as Leeds was going to be a stop a few days into the trip. Not sure when we're working Liverpool and Blackpool in. I imagine it will be PACKED during a bank holiday!

@shutterbugger My DIL mother went to the John Ryland library on Thursday ...she was in raptures ....apparently they have sleepovers!
Am working on the B&B but perhaps we could meet up for a coffee if it doesn't work out....I am willing to travel! Will be in touch!

@happypat that is exactly the way I expect to feel when I go in there. I've always said, especially after joining this site and seeing all the Brit's photos, that I'll have a heart attach if I ever made it there. I'm going to have to get some good travel insurance!!
If it doesn't work out, I would love to meet up. I think our goal is to see things like you mention in your b&b bio...unspoilt villages and rolling hills. Big cities will be nice but off the beaten path is where I'd rather be. Hell, even if I see an impressive rock wall I'll be thrilled to bits!

@shutterbugger @happypat Feeling dreadful that I never went in! I did spend a lot of time in the modern university library but had no idea that the old one was so beautiful! We did go in the Whitworth Art Gallery (also part of the university) quite a bit and it's just had an amazing extension. Cambridge next time - got to have a reason to come on another visit Jenn!

@shutterbugger Still waiting to see what my B&B's are up to on that w/e......I can hardly advise you to go to Blackpool for any culture though! We have some lovely villages inland though.

@shutterbugger @happypat Well Blackpool would certainly make an impression - but maybe not the right one!
