Out for a Walk

Beautiful day today, so Precious and I got out for a walk.
Hello, Precious and your person! :)

@kchuk Hello! :)

Awww...sweet! Does Precious have a leash?

@gardenfolk Yes, she wears a harness that I then attach her leash to for walkies.

@spanishliz How fun! I did that with a rabbit and people thought I was crazy! But I had her on the front lawn and didn’t want her to hop away! But with more cats being indoors only, this is a way for them to experience the outside world. I am lucky that Katniss remains mostly in our yard and if she goes anywhere it is over the fence to the two yards behind me we share a fence with. She loves to walk along the fence and climb our trees or roll in the grass. If I call her, she comes home. I also will not leave the house until she is safely indoors and her curfew is before dark. Since she was a stray for months, she does enjoy her freedom and outside time. I try to balance that with my worry. I do wish she would wear a collar but not. She is microchipped though. :)

@gardenfolk Precious has been an indoor cat (with leash privileges) since she was a kitten, so she has never been used to roaming. She does 'escape' from her harness from time to time, but she always runs home, or lets me pick her up when she does.

@spanishliz I have noticed with Katniss that the longer she is with us, the more of a scaredy cat she has become. When a stray she was very brave and secure in her abilities out on her own but now that she has a safe haven, every noise and person can spook her...funny how that happens.

@gardenfolk I have to be really watchful when I have Precious outside if a noisy car passes, or one of my neighbours appears with a lawn mower. Both are signs that it is time to go in, or at least pick her up.

@spanishliz Yes...I understand completely. We do live on a busy street and when she was on her own, those car noises didn't bother her and we would see her rolling around on our large driveway. She also slept under my husband's car and would watch the cars drive by...not now. She stays away from the cars, which is wonderful to me. I think the feral father of one of her kittens was hit by a car last year. It was awful...and the car never even stopped because they were afraid the cat had an owner...so sad.

@gardenfolk I've posted some photos of a black cat that has tried to be friendly with Precious. I don't know if it has an owner, but I really hope it has somewhere safe to stay on Halloween. Precious has already let me know that there's no way that place is here, otherwise I'd consider it.
