So today was spent with the woman in the picture - our first date.
She'd heard of the Rain Room at the Barbican so we went there first after meeting under the clock on the platform at Charing Cross.
It's basically a room in which 'rain' is falling from the very high ceiling and you have to walk in one end, to the other side. Slowly. Where ever you walk, the rain stops falling around you so you effectively 'control' the rain, and walk through a little dry area around you. It's not perfect and you do get wet, but it's great fun. And you could spend hours getting some great shots. But we did queue two hours to get in and we were hungry so I think in the end we were in the rain for about 25 minutes before leaving.
Exposure was tricky - trying to get the rain to show up as nice long streaks rather than small drops, while asking my friend to stand still for a while, but it was good fun. As I said, it would be worth going back again and spending ages in there, with a tripod too - which the Barbican didn't seem bothered about, I saw at least 3 today.
It's all lit by one main key light hanging from the corner of the room, so it's very dramatic but very simple too.
(The date ended very well by the way, after a very yummy meal in Bodeans BBQ in Soho, and a drink in Gordon's Wine Bar. I'm hopefully seeing her again next week :)
@orangecrush@florrie@malc@florrie@ruthmouch@3whiteroses Thank you everyone. It was a very cool room to try and capture something. If you're a Londonder coming then I recommend it. It's worth the wait in line, and the photo opportunities are endless. I could have stayed longer...! And Florence, she is a TV director so she understands my passion and I told her about the 365 project, she said to bring the camera and take photos on the date. The 1st date! #thinkImighthavetomarryher :)
Excellent shot - reckon your date must be a keeper if she will put up with you messing about with your camera on a first date! I have heard about this exhibition, it really does sound fascinating.
@jantan@jcarrollphoto Thank you both. And yes Jan, she might be...anyone who appreciates photography is worth holding to. We'll see... early days yet :)
