I thought today would have been a bit of a busy work day and it turned out to be a very forgetful one. I woke up very late after my phone ran out of power. I use my phone with an alarm app so I slept way past the time I should have for getting to work.
Given the fact I thought it would be a busy day I waited up last night till just after midnight to get into the correct day time wise. I shot these lilies against the dark of the french doors with the curtain pulled to the one side (so the black is the garden with no lights on) and lit only by a tall lamp, the kind that is gently wrapped in a paper-like material which creates a nice soft light. I love lilies, they're my favourite flower. Even though they can be associated with funerals, I think they're so elegantly made by nature, I actually like the strong aroma they produce and just think they stand out so well. If I ever buy someone flowers I always try to hand-pick some from the florist and include at least one lily of some sort.
Think i'll go buy a traditional analogue alarm - I don't want to resort to my phone like I have done for the last 3 years.
I didn't get into too much trouble - luckily most of my colleagues use their iPhone for their alarm too so they have done it, and understood. But still feel embarrassed for having done it.
Lilies are elegant, as you say and have a wonderful form. The pollen can be dangerous but I think they take something out of them now so you don't get dye all over your clothes!
