Taken from my hotel window as the evening is getting started in Nottingham a few weeks ago. I was given a Joby Gorillapod for my birthday which would have helped here to prevent camera shake but hey-ho...!
I have never been able to do these light trails...mind you I have never tried.....I have a tripod but have never ever used it simply because I am too embarrassed to get it out! I like this shot! Views from hotel wi dies can vary so much...I think you did well here!
@happypat Pat it's so easy...just keep your shutter open for longer. Get a tripod out, and set your camera up so your shutter is open for perhaps a second to start with.
Obviously shooting manually helps to really understand what's going on.
So wait till the light is low enough, then close down your iris to a smaller f-stop (which also helps get sharp trails and star bursts) and keep the ISO really low. Also using the cameras in-built self-timer so your hand isn't on the camera when the shutter opens also helps too.
