Taken in August last year, this is one of the few occasions I actually stalked a hare instead of waiting for it to come close.
I spotted it laying low in a freshly harvested field and I did wait for a long while but it didn't move.
I decided to try and get closer as it was all of 50 meters away so it was down on my belly and slowly edging forward, scratching myself to bits on the stalks, I began the long journey. It took me around 20 minutes to get close grabbing the occasional shot as I went. When I got to about 2 meters away, I noticed it was actually sleeping and had no idea I was there. I think the shutter woke it up as it drowsily opened it's eyes, realized I was there and legged it across the field.
I can just imagine your pain crawling through the stubble only to realise the hare was sleeping. What a way to get a fantastic photo your perseverance paid off. I bet he had a shock when he woke up to find you so close to him.
i love reading the stories behind your photographic escapades Steve. The memories seem so fresh - as if it were yesterday. Ofcourse I am loving the captures too. im struck by the light edge to the hare's ear which matches the stubble in the field so well.
