These ants have a nasty bite to them and don't I know it.
I almost had to get in the nest to get the shot

@gardencat I don't think these are fire ants Joanne. Just red ants which are native to the UK. Their bite is not as bad as the fire ant

Did you use a macro lens? Or extension tubes? Or close-up lenses?
Really nice with all the details!

@mike67 using tubes with a 55-200 lens. I don't want to spend a fortune on a new lens until I know I'll stick with it.
