Ol' Whiskers by stray_shooter

Ol' Whiskers

My vow to upload a current picture each day has been broken. I was a slave to the football games all day, so I offer this shot taken on my last visit to Safari Park. Fortunately some of us will be getting together at this same location this coming Saturday. Hope the kitty here remembers me and cooperates once again.
Great shot! Not sure I'd pet him though. Have fun at the wild animal park!

He looks somewhat surprised with those wide eyes! Prey or predator!

Great closeup -- his expression looks so curious. Hope the Saturday event is equally successful.

OMG -- this image took me back YEARS ago to when I was a foreign exchange student in Orange County and I had to suddenly return to Japan so my host father took me and my host sister to Lion Country Safari! I haven't heard of it in years, though, and I was just in San Diego --> LA. What a magnificent creature, nicely captured here.

@jyokota Now that brings back some memories! I live a stone's throw from the area that was Lion Country Safari. Seems the developers couldn't resist raping the land and we all know how much better it is to have high density housing rather than a wildlife playground. :-( Surprisingly few in the area now even know that LCS was even there! It became a water park, and then that was dismantled for the housing, but the Irvine Meadows (now Verizon Amphitheater) survives - for a while anyway. Thanks for bringing back the memories!

@stray_shooter @jyokota I never pass that area that I don't recall the thrill of a wild animal walking in front of the car! What a delight it would be to still have something like that in the neighborhood! (Too much liability, I suppose, though I never heard of it happening...)

Your tiger is fantastic, Ron. I suppose money CAN buy a little happiness in the form of that nice lens you now carry!

@stray_shooter and @Weezilou -- sad to hear of the demise of a place for which I have such fond memories. Thanks for the update, though! I'm sorry I didn't know you lived in the area when Taffy and I met up with Joe and Elizabeth. http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2015-12-04

@jyokota You 'll just have to come back then, won't you?! We enjoy this circle so much, and I'm amazed at the life achievements and educational level achieved by all of them. The conversations can be quite interesting; I know you (and Taffy @taffy) would enjoy them all immensely!
