My contribution to the black and white challenge, which is landscapes. This is pretty much the same spot in which I shot the sunset. I was actually waiting for these folks to vacate the shot, but as I explained previously it's rare that nobody is on the beach here, so I just gave in and waited until their actions were something worth catching. After all, they were taking their own photos.
What I learned in taking this photo: Sometimes you just can't control the situation. You simply have to adjust and work with what you have.
You may well have wished them gone but they are perfectly placed..
Ron, this looks a great place to while away the day.. loving the trees on the right, so exotic to someone living in the north of England..
you have certainly lived up to the brief/challenge..
I agree with every thing Jorlam @jorlam hassaid, your photo bombers do look nicely placed in the image, its a beautiful monochrome landscape and I can confirm we don't have any thing like this in West Yorkshire Ron:)
Not surprised at all to see this was on the PP! I faved the mts and will return to comment, but I was curious to see "this tropical beach". You had me with this one... I'm thinking local people in native dress on Bali or Fiji (neither of which I've visited), but it looks like *it could be*! Wow! Beautiful! I'm seldom a big fan of B&W, but this is incredible!
when you have a beautiful scenery like this, it's inevitable the selfie shooters are around. and they stay for as long as it takes. i'm with you, unless they're doing something worth catching, i wait for them to disappear. however, it's nice to have some kind of human element in the shot. and if the shot is really outstanding and you'd want to have it framed, you can always prettify the shot more by cloning them out. i don't like sunset or sea photos in black and white, but the tones here are quite engaging i can forgive you. :-P aces!
@jorlam@pcoulson You know, the more I gazed at this photo (not that I spend a whole lot of time gazing at my own photos) the more I grew to like the people and their placement. Thanks for helping to sway my increased satisfaction with the results. I have to remind myself sometimes that not everyone gets to enjoy such scenery. It's expensive, crowded, and the most insane state in the country, but the scenery does have some very nice offerings. Thanks for your encouraging comments.
@blueace Thanks for stopping by to comment Annie! As I mention above, I'm becoming more sold on the folks in the photo. Maybe I'll go back and try to run them down and use them in for other photos!
@888rachel Inner peace, yes. I believe the rest of my photos will now be introspective abstracts whose meaning only I will understand.....with the occasional flamingo or motorcycle, or course.
@Weezilou@summerfield Ironically I spent a great amount of time when visiting Australia trying to capture a requested tropical black and white image for a friend who was decorating. Who knew I'd stumble upon what I was really after right here in Laguna Beach? Funny that both of you mention that you don't care much for B&W beach shots, but that this one works for you. Oddly, I feel the same way!
A beautiful beach shot that really works in B&W - something that does not happen often! The couple add interest to the shot.
Congrats on being selected a finalist in this very competitive challenge. Good luck!
