I had the extreme pleasure of meeting up with one of 365's most wonderful couples, Louise and Ken, @Weezilou, in San Clemente where we took some pictures and enjoyed some drinks and dinner. Of course we timed it so that we could catch the sunset. The original was good, but playing around with some of the settings and some texture gave it a little more pizzaz.
What I learned in taking this photo: I need an 800mm lens. While taking this photo, next to me was a gentleman who had many thousands of dollars worth of incredible equipment, a Canon 1 DX, and an 800mm lens. He was shooting the sun itself as it was setting (you can't tell by my shot, but it was dramatically setting over Catalina Island) and he showed me a sampling of the results. Amazing. He then took a shot down at the end of the pier, zeroing in on some of the lights and the result was crystal clear (and close!!), though you can get an idea of how far away that is in my capture. Very inspiring!
You selection of color gradations is fabulous! You're right...I LIKE it! ...and keep in mind that, while you're envying that 800mm lens, I was getting a big fat zero, and that was even after I put the card in the camera! While I was trying to be "clever" you nailed the shot out here!
Stunning capture and wonderful processing Ron, clearly you don't need to change your equipment to achieve stunning results, if you had an 800mm lens on Flamingo Friday all we would see is just a very large eye, lol, Fav:)
800mm.....I'll have to look that up and see how much it would set me back....I have a 70-200 2.8 and I thought that was expensive! Love your pier and sunset....what are we shooting today?
Great fun - pizzaz indeedy! An 800mm lens? Must be amazing to get that close. I only have one lens lol - an18-270 zoom. Maybe I need to talk nicely to Santa......
800mm lens is a lot of chi-ching and very heavy, I would think. Only $16,296 at B&H. BUT it has VR and you don't pay taxes from B&H. Yeah! Ay Dios mio. I love the processing you did on this one. The colors and reflections are awesome. Oh yeah, you could always rent one. That would be fun for a day. I say big Fav on your creation!
Whoa, whoa, whoa! Magnificent and stunning. Hey, Louise mentioned you guys had been to San Clemente and you ate at your favorite Italian place. What is it? We frequently meet our daughter (from Redondo Beach) in San Clemente for lunch and a visit. Curious about your favorite.!
I'll just confess right off the bat that I'm having not only lens envy, hearing about that guy's 800mm view, but SCENE ENVY and what you get to shoot through your lens. How beautiful is this! Wow. Stunning.
@Weezilou@terryliv@dianen@casablanca@joysfocus@cjphoto@888rachel@lyndemc And to those who were intrigued by and asked about the 800 mm lens it's a mere $8,000. Not as bad as I thought actually. I'm sure it was heavy as he had the whole assembly mounted on a monopod. Maybe someday.....if I win the lottery maybe. Thanks for your comments and favs!
@pcoulson Thanks Peter. Now that you mention it I suppose 800 mm might be a little much for my pink feathery friends. That bid red eye sure made an impression on people!
@aglennc Thanks Anita. My little spot in SC is Sonny's, right on El Camino Real, near Palizada. They are open for lunch and I highly recommend stopping there for a little rigatoni or gnocchi. Marinara or meat sauce are equally delish!
Aren't we always looking for an excuse to buy some new gear?
I have been thinking about motorcycles ever since I discovered you had a Harley ...
The picture is awesome, by the way .-)
@runner365 Thanks for that and I apologize in advance should you take the plunge into the two wheel life. I know how much Harley's go for in your country, so my hat is off to you if you go that route. I find that most European's opt for BMW's, only slightly less insanely expensive. ;-)
