Not Quite Memento Mori Stillife by stray_shooter

Not Quite Memento Mori Stillife

My Get Pushed challenge this week from @Kali66 is to capture and post a memento mori stillife, which as she explains, represents a symbol of the fleeting and temporary nature of our existence. It's not exactly a stillife (although he is very still), but he does appear to be rather ghostly. I'm working on a better response to the challenge.
Reminds me of Day of the Dead. A great "portrait"!

@kali66 I admit, Kali, that it's not quite in line with your challenge, but I vow to get something more appropriate done - after tomorrow's Flamingo shot of course. ;-)

I learned a new word!

The lady cutting my hair today was talking about an upcoming trip to Tombstone (her first). Thinking of your photos, I was telling her how wonderful it would be and asked if she takes photos. She said she'd given her husband a camera for Christmas (a *real camera*! Imagine!) and he's excited to capture some nice photos!

Not heard that phrase before Ron - you learn something new every day on 365! I think this gorgeous chap makes a wonderful still life! Great find!

faddy diets have a lot to answer for...
i like this for the challenge. Memento mori - remember death, is well depicted here.. therefore fits the bill..
i'm loving the whole get-up.. the clothes are perfection for this - they too have seen better days.. the hat also.. love the 3/4 profile showing space between the jawbone and the rest of the head.. just wish he'd had more space to the left of camera, to look into.. great backdrop and 'seat'..

What an interesting capture of this old timer Ron with lovely soft tones and textures, love the composition, lighting and fine detail, your spot on with this Memento Mori, definitely a still life :)

Kas
The grinning is a wee bit disconcerting - however, remains a rather strangely absorbing image. Good interpretation. Lovely tones and shades. And like Pam, everyday is a school day here on 365.

Where on earth did you find this guy at this time of year???

This seems to fit "still life" perfectly!!! Haha!!

Love it, he doesn't look well, but he still has a gorgeous smile.

Not sure it could be more of a "still life"... and what fun to add a different element to the concept...great job...

Looks like weekend at Bernie's lasted a little too long. Cool capture!

@taffy Good point Taffy! Maybe I should have waited until November. ;-)

@kali66 Thanks for your gracious acceptance. There's another, and slightly different, attempt for Saturday. Thanks for this challenge - it opened my eyes to a whole other realm of subject matter.

@salza Thanks Sally. I guess when you're a skeleton your entire existence is still life. Thanks for the comments and for viewing.

@Weezilou I learned a new word too - and a new photographic subject. Strange but cool. Tombstone will definitely be fun for your hair dresser. Tell here to keep that camera handy at all times!

@pixiemac Thanks so much Sarah - and thanks for not making fun of me for my commitment to the bears. I was talking to a guy the other day that sold a 1912 Steiff through Christies for $7,000. They can be serious business!

@pamknowler Thanks Pam. That makes several of us that learned a new term. Part of why I enjoy 365 so much. Thanks for your comments.

@jorlam Obviously that faddy diet went a little to far! Thanks for all of the great compliments - got lucky with this one as someone else dressed him.

@terryliv Ha, no it's not. I recall a certain flat lizard that you treated us to. He fits the definition.....in his own way.

@pcoulson Thanks as always for your observant and detailed kind words. I have to admit to having fun with this one.

@wag864 Thanks so much for all of the nice comments Kas! That grin seems to be omnipresent in skulls with cool hats I've found. :-)

@aglennc This is the result of all of that rain. If you don't carry an umbrella this could have to you too! :-)
March 5th, 2017
@cjphoto Thanks Chris. I did take still life a little literally I suppose. I appreciate your feedback.

@onewing Thanks Babs. You must be one of those who views being thin as being unhealthy! ;-) I agree that his smile is somewhat enchanting.

@swwoman Thanks so much! "Still" seems to certainly be subject to interpretation!

@joysfocus Ha, that made me laugh. I love Weekend at Bernies! And even version II!
