I indicated previously that trying to catch a butterfly in mid-flight is about as challenging as trying to catch a bullet with your teeth. Even more challenging is trying to get one of the Blue Morphos in flight in their blue state. When not in flight these guys appear as a woody dull brown color that camoflauges them cleverly as an owl's head. But once they take flight their wings turn into a beautiful blue that is as radiant as radioactive cobalt. They go from one color to the other so quickly that it's almost impossible to capture. It's as if you're photographing a cute fluffy squirrel that suddenly turns into an ugly brown seagull. But I did get somewhat lucky in this case. Somewhat, because he wasn't in perfect focus, but a little editing and a little framing, and I figure it's good enough to post.
Very nice shot. Someone once posted a shot of one. But with the brown wings. This caused me to look them up online, where I found a video that explained that the brown of the wings colored by pigment. But the blue side of the wings are color by the refractive structure of the other side of the wings which cause them to appear blue.
OMG this is fabulous! I chased these stunning beauties round and round in the Chicago butterfly house desperately trying to capture one flying but failed every time. I had never seen such wonderful butterflies with the knockout colour! They had just released some as we went into the house and I felt as if I was in a Disney movie! Fav for taking the shot I wanted to get! Lol!
No Way! And then, "Really???"..."It's as if you're photography a cute fluffy squirrel that suddenly turns into an ugly brown seagull...."
And so I end the evening on a high note and a lot of laughs! I must say that your series of butterflies and birds is lovely...and I'm so glad I wore the proper color to pair nicely with that series!
