Row Row Row...Your Stand-Up Paddle Board

Waiting for the sunset in Dana Point I captured these paddlers heading back home before the sharks came out to feed. Personally I think stand-up paddle boards are stupid - it you're going to be on a board, you should be surfing, and if you want to paddle, take a canoe, but to each his own I guess.
Beautiful colourful sunset! Those figures make it interesting. As I couldn’t do either kind of surfing I cannot make a judgement! At least they are out there on the water which must be lovely!

Beautiful golden light and composition, as you are a native Californian Ron I would expect its the only way to surf, I've tried surfing in Australia every time I tied to stand I was off the board and into the sea, lol:)

I can't but agree with you on SUPs... a fashionable thing, I think

You were really pushing the limits of your camera to get this marvelous shot! It was a fast shutter speed ... I was rather expecting a lot slower but then it was still fairly early in the day.
So - great work to make it look like an evening shot.
A FAV!

Brilliant with all the orange! I like that you captured them in the light beam.

@pamknowler Thanks Pam, and you are right - gotta give them credit for getting out there and doing something physical....unlike me sitting on my butt, taking photos.

@pcoulson Thanks very much Peter. I can identify with the challenge of getting up on a board. I think it's easier for kids today who come up riding skateboards and snowboarding.....neither of which I am proficient at.

@domenicododaro I am glad to hear that I'm not alone in my thoughts. Fashionable is an excellent description. I expect we won't see quite so many in a decade or so.....or when a shark jumps out and eats one.

@farmreporter To be honest, Wendy, it was a bit of a mistake. I try to keep the ISO at around 100, sort of a sweet spot for this camera and lens, and I was on aperture priority, trying to blur the background a bit. I'm lucky the camera shoots at 1/8000 seconds! In Southern California at this time of year, the sun sets quite early, I believe it was only 15 minutes after this shot was taken. Thanks very much for the fav!
