Autofocus can work in your favor as well as mess up your photo sometimes. This situation kind of worked in both ways. Flamingos' heads bob up and down often and this guy popped up as I was focusing on the pair behind him. Bingo - refocus and shoot.

@pcoulson Thanks so much Peter. The depth of field in this particular case was pretty much a matter of necessity, as I was using a long lens and had the aperture pretty wide open. Worked out in my favor!
