Having finally arrived in Gettysburg, one of the more interesting activities was exploring the historic battlefields. Thousands of the cannons used during the battle have been preserved and stand as monuments to the battle.
Gettysburg was a huge clash between the north and south armies and the result was the most massive number of casualties in history, over 7,000 killed, 33,000 wounded and 11,000 listed as missing. It lasted for three days in July of 1863, and it is said to have marked the turning point in the war as it was a decisive victory for the north.
