Tagging butterflies during the Monarch Celebration at the riverfront.
In case you'd like to follow this one, the project is called Monarch Watch, run by the University of Kansas: tag@ku.edu / 1-888-TAGGING to report any tagged monarchs you find. This lady butterfly is ULE 159.
I was photographing monarchs yesterday as they prepared to sly south form Ontario, and I also read about the tagging. Hope it contributes ultimately to an increase in the numbers of this gorgeous butterfly--there are so few now, compared to when I was growing up in the Niagara Peninsula.
Doesn't the tag interfere with their flying?
