Away we go

Tagging butterflies during the Monarch Celebration at the riverfront.

In case you'd like to follow this one, the project is called Monarch Watch, run by the University of Kansas: tag@ku.edu / 1-888-TAGGING to report any tagged monarchs you find. This lady butterfly is ULE 159.
You did well to capture this little fellow to tag it. I can't even seem to capture one is a photo.
Doesn't the tag interfere with their flying?

that looks like it takes patience!

The tag is a very sticky sticker, and apparently doesn't interfere with their ability to fly.

I was photographing monarchs yesterday as they prepared to sly south form Ontario, and I also read about the tagging. Hope it contributes ultimately to an increase in the numbers of this gorgeous butterfly--there are so few now, compared to when I was growing up in the Niagara Peninsula.
