I was challenged to do a macro snowflake for my 'get-pushed' challenge. The results aren't perfect and I really want to revisit this sometime, but I'm pleased with the result.
My macro lens just didn't get in close enough so I mounted a reversed 50mm lens backwards in front of the lens. This allowed me to get in closer, but I still had to crop the image down quite a bit. The image quality also suffered a bit and it vignettes really bad. I'll be getting a set of extension tubes for when I revisit this.
It was also very difficult to find a snowflake that wasn't mangled. This one wasn't perfect, but it was one of the better ones I found.
I started my photo-a-day project on September 6th, 2004 on livejournal, transferred it here around 2011. All photos were taken on the day they're posted...
Hi Josh, I am your get pushed partner for this week. I see you are shooting with a Nikon D800, Nikon has a cool feature for shooting multiple/double exposures in camera. My challenge to you is to experiment with this feature and see what kind of results you can get. One pointer I can give you is if you are shooting into a light background to have the auto gain on and if shooting into a dark background to have the auto gain off. Good luck and looking forward to seeing what you come up with
