moon
the january treasure hunt is well underway. today (or tonight) i was hunting for the moon and found it in no time. no sweat at all.
it had been an open sky today, beautiful blue hue in the morning, sun blazing in the afternoon and there was a beautiful sunset that i failed to capture yet again. methinks on a day like today i should just play hookie and go up the CN tower with my camera and shoot the sunset.
this brings to mind a rather funny story that happened in 2007. my boss' good friend who is a scientist wrote him an e-mail the week prior telling him that on August 27th, there will be two moons. how? apparently, mars would be so visible to the earth that it would look like the earth has 2 moons. the information further said that no one living today would again see this phenomenom because the next time it would happen will be in the year 2287. thrilled, i kept reminding myself all week that i should not forget about this phenomenom.
then august 27 came. before noon, my boss forwarded his scientist friend's e-mail with the subject "ooooooppppssss---Aug. 27th". ah, even scientists can be duped by fellow scientists.
it was okay, since there's going to be a lunar eclipse the next day and that it would have the same thrill to me as i have not seen one since i left the philippines.
coming home, as i was waiting to cross the street at the corner of danforth and monarch, a bunch of men came out of the sports/karaoke bar (you know these men have big problems considering they are drunk that early on a monday evening yet). the men were so obnoxious and loud i wanted to get away from them as fast as i could and wished the lights would change already. as i waited for the lights to change, i looked up and saw the almost full moon. by this time, one of the men got really obnoxious, ran to (staggered was more like it) and stood in the middle of the intersection then pulled down his pants and mooned the passing cars. guffaws, laughter, insults and a lot of obscenities ensued.
so technically, on my way home, i still got to see two moons.
@sbb1980 - thank you, sara. my little p&s has 12x optical zoom. i don't understand how that works, because when i was zooming in for this shot, i saw "zoom 48x"? can't figure it out. :-)
@crickle1969 - yay! we have two moons? thank you, crystal.
@karenann - ewwww! that was my reaction to the second moon, plus the story happened in 2007 before i started carrying a camera with me. thank you, karenann.
Lying in bed last night with the curtains drawn to let in some air,it was a warm one. That half glowing moon was out there on our side of the world to..i really must get a pic of it sometime
i am laughing so hard at your story! i so wish you had gotten that shot of that man in the street, would have served him right, although by the sounds of it he was trashed enough to want the attention. i had a man once follow me through a drive through at burger king and all the way home from a bar even though i had told him malcolm was there. he boldly followed me and my friend right through the front door and sat right down at my kitchen table and had a beer with mal after he saw he was REAL! we lived 30 miles outside of town. that is determination. malcolm shook his hand and told him, sorry, dude, you should have listened to her! lucky he ran into malcolm. drunks who don't listen.
