'on a wagon bound for market there's a calf with a mournful eye; high above him there's a swallow winging swiftly through the sky. how the winds are laughing, they laughed with all their might. laugh and laugh the whole day through and half the summer's night..." donna, donna, sung and popularized by joan baez in 1960.
partner kept me company three times at the beaches yesterday while i took pics. this was a sneak shot, of the seagull.
pretty soon the boats will arrive, the seagulls will be displaced from the docks and this scene will drastically change. must remember to drag the man again.
Wow- you brought back memories for me! I used to sing that song with my guitar all the time! I didn't know it was a Joan Baez song although now that you say it, it makes sense to me that it was. Love the sneaky aspect of this shot- took a similar sneaky shot myself the other day when hubby took me to Worthington State Park for a photo shoot. Nice one!
@danig - i mean, ask him to take me there again when the boats have come back. :-) thank you, DG.
@inertie - thank you, pinar. around here, 'though, the seagulls are such obnoxious characters, almost nobody likes them.
@olivetreeann - that was the first song i learned how to pick the guitar with; before that, i just strum. as you can see with the title, i started to parody "the old man and the sea" but looking at the flying seagull, the lyrics of that song just came to mind and that's what came out with the typing. i remember my little boy whenever he saw me take the guitar out of its case, he'd be asking me for only two songs: "donna, donna" and "puff the magic dragon". memories! thank you, ann.
@summerfield I sang Puff too!!! And how about Blowin' in the Wind! Ok, if we ever meet (going up to Batavia first week in May and will be more specific as the time draws nearer) we must perform a duet! Not! I don't know if I could play anymore with the arthritis in my fingers.
Ahh ... love the whole scene! Weather looks perfect ... but it's the "partner" that makes the photo for me. His staring into space is exactly what we humans do when we see this kind of view. Timeless!!
@olivetreeann - blowin' in the wind, leaving on a jetplane, till there was you, in the early morning rain. but like you, i can't play anymore. i probably don't remember the chords except for the donna song. and the base of my thumb was always painful then, now my fingers would probably get stiff for good if i play. we'll just sing acapella or...i have karaoke :-)
@karenann - wow, thank you, karenann, for that very generous comment. much appreciated, really. weather was a tad windy and colder yesterday, even more so today. very unfriendly weather to old folks like me suffering from joint problems. hehehe.
@olivetreeann - with full orchestra backing in stereo! no cameras allowed though. i think i'm going to be in michigan first week of may. but let me know when you're going to be there. my friends are so not reliable when it comes to availabilities.
@inertie - thank you, pinar. around here, 'though, the seagulls are such obnoxious characters, almost nobody likes them.
