this is my best side

took hundreds of photos at the allan gardens last saturday using my nikon. when i left the conservatory building, i had to put away my camera as the surrounding streets and area aren't so great with drug users and the like all over the place. but the outside gardens were rife of birds and bees so i had to use my little canon.

i think, inanimate objects they might be, the cameras are competing amongst themselves. take a look at this shot. i never knew my canon p&s could do this so this is a really big surprise. this is definitely sooc but for the name tag somewhere on the bird. and i have shots of bees that were incredibly clear which i have to learn yet how to do on the big nikon. am seriously thinking of trading the nikon for a muscled p&s. :-) or maybe someone out there wants to buy a slightly used nikon d3100? :-)

too bad 'birds' is not on list of july movies; am taggin' it just the same.

thank you for your views and comments; know that they are much appreciated. i shall eventually make my way over to your albums, just please be patient with me.

also, thank you for your concern about my vertigo. it's eased now although i can't just turn my head without everything spinning around. i'm very grateful, all of you folks; you're the best buddies ever.
Beautiful capture. Amazing detail and focus. Love the pov and the pose of the bird. Though I wouldn't give up the Nikon just yet. For awhile I kept both in my bag while I was figuring out the manual aspects of my DSLR. If I saw the opportunity for a great shot, I would use the p&s first so I know I got it right. Then I'd use the dslr to see if I could reproduce the same effect or better. Eventually I got ride of the p&s, and switched between auto and manual on the good shots to compare. I haven't had a chance to finish going through your photos, sorry about that. Did you pick up a zoom lens with the Nikon? That definitely helps with the birds.
Sorry to hear about your virtigo. Have you had your ears checked. Most times virtigo is caused by an inner ear problem, and you may not even feel any pain.

what a profile shot. Hope you get your Vertigo in check, that is scary

this is an awesome shot. i was just looking into the specs of a nikon
3100 online - nice camera. don't give up. look how long it has taken me to go to the manual settings on my camera and that is why i bought a bridge, just so i could have that option. now, of course, i want to toss it and move up and am driving malcolm insane. he can't believe the price of cameras. i point to his tool box. he nods his head.

Congrats! your shot made the pp page!

Beautiful capture with this one, summerfield. The clarity can't be beat! I agree with you totally on the clarity of a good p&s vs. the dslr. My hubby saw a great new powerful p&s and wanted me to get it. I know that I'd give up on the Nikon D7000 if I did that. It's heavy, hard to learn, etc. So tempting. BUT for now, I'm making myself stick with it. Still ... they are making phenomenal p&s cameras today.

@losthorizon - thank you, beau. one of my really lucky shots. on weekends i do bring both the nikon and the canon. sometimes if i know i have more time after work, i bring them both with to the office, but otherwise i bring only the canon and my little nikon coolpix. see, the problem with us older folks is that we think we are in a hurry to learn something because we are running out of time or else! :-) i've ordered a zoom lens, a macro lens and a wireless shutter release and they should arrive anytime now. i'm aware of the ear problem so i'm on it. thank you for your concern, it's much appreciated.

@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. would you believe it, i haven't picked up my camera since last sunday. well, it's just been two days anyway and heaven knows, it's not like i don't have tons and tons and tons of photos i can post. :-)
July 11th, 2012
@catsmeowb - really? nah, maybe it was a similar photo. although i'd be happy if this bird photo goes in there, but for that to happen i need about 40-50 views and five or 6 fav's. a photo has to have 40-45% in views against the number of your followers and at least 3 fav's, again, depending on the number of your followers. thank you, camille.

@summerfield yes, just the thing for you, and please send me a piece because I know how you hate eating alone.

@karenann - thank you, karenann. we must not forget that good eye has to go with the camera and you, girlfriend, have both! you composition is always bang on, and you pick your subjects really really well.

@sarasdadandmom - but you promise you won't tell the weight watchers police? :-)

no, seriously, it is there. you, KarenAnn and I all made it. guess the 10th was our lucky day. you have to look through the pages now to find it, but it is still there for that date - i went and checked for KarenAnn because she thought hers had disappeared. ours were on page 13.

Great shot Vikki! All I have is a little p&s Cannon. (Well I do have the other one that a friend gave me but I've yet to really figure it out!)
July 12th, 2012
@catsmeowb - too many photos and my eyes were hurting. actually, i don't aspire anymore to be on the pp. i prefer to get kudos from you my friends. it's what keeps me going. thank you, my friend, you're the sweetest, you know.

@olivetreeann - thank you, ann. yes, my little canon is doing great work these days. i wonder if that is a precursor to it dying? if it croaks on me, i'm buying another powershot. gotta have a back up with that dSLR (that i haven't touched since saturday hehehehe!). i'm getting a waterproof nikon tomorrow (i just got rid of one and i'm getting another. do you think i am addicted?). bytheway, anna's problem is fixed hopefully.

@summerfield I think if I had the ability, I would just upgrade my p&s to the top of the line. Mine was a gift and I know that my children thought they were getting the best for me, but I know there are some with a little more variety in settings etc. that I don't have with this one. And I'm glad to hear that for Anna! I actually think her brother (whom she's always watching the children for- for free) should get her one, but it's not my place to say!

i have never cared much about it myself. i discovered i had been on it once way back when and did not know a thing about it, it completely escaped my notice and thought, gee, perhaps i should i said thank you or something. how it happens escapes me. it is a 'magic formula' as far as i can determine.

Just sent my DSLR to the far away hospital hoping to get it back as soon as possible. Bought a P&S to get by and hate it. I want my control back. Too bad I have Sony lenses or I would say- ship it to me today. You have done great with your P&S with many shots including this one.

@jannkc - your camera is sick? so sorry to hear that. but you have a great photographer's eye so i'm sure it won't matter what camera you have in your hand. hope you get it back soon. thank you, jann.
