i asked this taxi driver if i can take his photo. he asked me why. i said i'm taking photography and that we have an assignment of photographing people doing their jobs. he shook his head, saying a lot of stuff i didn't understand then i made out something like "you people who can afford to go to school" and then he asked if i would pay him. i told him i'm a student, trying to learn another skill so i can find a job again. he said at least ten dollars so he could get lunch. i explained that our professor told us that we're not supposed to pay, just ask to take photos for free. so, in the end he said no, i gotta pay him.
so i went to the other side of the street and when he wasn't looking, click! when he looked across the road and he yelled "hey, you with the camera!" the other taxi drivers waiting for their fares were all looking. i pretended i was fiddling with my camera. one driver, an east indian, told me the guy was calling me.
so, i yelled back "are you talking to me?" and he mumbled something. i said again "you talking to me?" is that a good come back or what?
pffft! pay him. i'm good at sneak shots. de niro he's not, why should i pay him.
@pamfromcalgary - i was prepared to pay him, but only $2! something for coffee or coke; it's not like i'm going to make money out of his image. bwahahaha! thank you, pam.
Love the way that you captured him anyway! And yes, I love that you yelled back. He should have been flattered ... what if you had offered him a copy of the photo? Spose that he would have wanted the money along with it. Geez ... streets are getting harder and harder!!
@karenann - thank you, karenann. i think he was checking his taxi chits. it being monday, it would be lean pickings around downtown unless it's the rush hour. i did offer him a copy but he said it won't feed his family. hehehehe.
@sarasdadandmom - hah! he's hardly famous. give me a car with tinted windows and i can probably get photos of people in very interesting "situations". thank you, terry.
@jannkc - "you talkin' to me?" well, actually when i yelled back the second time, it was more like howard halowitz's mother in the big bang theory! thank you, jann.
LOL He's not the only cabbie in town! I'm sure that there are plenty others who wouldn't have minded it one bit. After all it was on a city street! On the other hand, I would have paid de niro the ten bucks! Oh yeah. :)
i LOVE THAT SHOW! malcolm says its because sheldon reminds me of my dad - so not true. well, maybe. LOL! as usual, you story gave me a great giggle. good capture.

@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. yes, in that show, i mostly relate to sheldon as i could be exasperating, so i've been told!
