there are, in some public libraries in canada and the u.s., anthology books with stories that i wrote.
my first story was published and read at the 'toronto's totally unknown writers festival' along with other writers. a few months later, a book of anthologies titled "shades of blue" was released. two of my stories appeared along with five other writers. over the course of the seven years after that, a few more of my short stories were included in anthologies, the last of which was 'this is what happened', my writing mentor's project before he died.
someday, hopefully in the very near future, there shall be books with stories written entirely by summerfield. for a long while now, i've been working on two novels and perhaps when i shall have retired, i will finish them off and someone will publish it and you will get to read it.
if i can just shake this photography thing off me then probably i shall have more time for writing.
you writings are always a delight to read BUT don't shake off the photography!! - why not combine the two and illustrate what you write! You certainly are talented enough to do so =)
I can't wait to read the adventures of little wahoo.(hint..hint) That would be an awesome book. You do have an amazing way with words. I am always entertained!
@cheribug - little wahoo returns to 365 in january with her own little album (hint. hint.;-)) i don't know what it's going to be about but i will try to do it and hopefully you'll be more entertained!
Beautiful shot. Love the processing, such a dream like quality. I envy you being able to write stories and to do a novel is just wonderful! I can barely manage to string a few sentances together!
@salza - thank you, sally. my writing mentor here in canada taught me to write simply and briefly. and i also believe everyone has a lot of stories to tell, we just have to tap into it.
@claireuk - thank you, claire. i know for sure that a library in the UK ordered two of the Shades of Blue back in 2004. i was the contact person for that particular group of writers in that book so i got all correspondence from the publisher. but if you're so inclined you can read my blog (which i haven't updated yet) http://amatterofdistinction.blogspot.ca/
and i'm open to corrections or suggestions :-) thanks again.
you are so far ahead of the game - you have already been published and know how to go about it. i have no doubt at all you will accomplish this goal, vikki. unlike me, you do not write in notebooks and then do nothing with your notes, as i do nothing with my photos. just think - you just sold three of your photos! i imagine myself, in my rocking chair someday, curled up with a summerfield novel, sipping my coffee, having a great day.
I am envious and impressed that you are published in a book of anthologies! Little by little (and thanks to a lot of encouragement on here) I am heading towards some sort of published form for my writing. Funny, I keep being distracted by photography too!
nice soft lighting -- and books! What better subject! The only better subject would be if they were YOUR books you were taking a photo of! And that day WILL come!
@olivetreeann - it's nerve wracking, especially the first time. i kept reading and re-reading my stories until i could recite them by rote and still found wrong punctuations, spelling, spacing. argh! the other 6 writers could've killed me. because i got the galley copy, i returned it to the printer with more edits. but when i received my copy, wow, i couldn't believe it. then i got sidetracked by a lot of things and my book of short stories are still short of some stories to get published. :-D but i know i will have to go back to the writing board sooner, the hard drive in my brain is getting full! thank you, ann. i know that if you were here in toronto, you'd have been in our life rattle radio show. funny, this girl at the office whose stories i introduced to life rattle got lazy on writing her novel. so i created a plan for her to write at least 300 words per day until end of may after which we shall have a 'first draft celebration'. it's all she needed and in two weeks' time she's already written more than three thousand words so she's well on her way towards getting the first draft done. partner said, why don't i kick my own ass, too? one day, i will. if i remember it still.
and i'm open to corrections or suggestions :-) thanks again.
