anyone who has worked in an office and who is over forty would remember this gizmo. it's an IBM typewriter, the later wheel-type model. i don't know how to use this model because i went from the clanky olivetti brand (that you would've seen in those old humphrey bogart movies) to an electric IBM with the ball type letters. then i went to oman and i used a computer - heck i forgot the program that we used. funny but when i was interviewed for the job in oman, they didn't tell me i had to use a computer. it was a good thing i enrolled in a short course the year before so it came in handy.
when i came to canada, my typing on computers had already been honed. i blew the keyboards every time i got an interview and they'd give me typing tests. i typed 120 words (with 7 errors) a minute (the average speed would be 100). i think my average these days is 130 plus or minus.
i used to own a portable electric olympia typewriter which i brought with me when going on trips so i could write. that was heavy. we've come a long way since then.
@jayberg - it's quite fast. that's why my peeps at the office are so spoiled, they know documents would be done in no time. thank you for your visit; it's much appreciated.
@bkbinthecity - you know, brian, this is just one floor above me and i often visit the lady next to this work station and yet, i didn't know where this typewriter was until i asked this morning because i had to photograph it. i thought it was just one of those gizmos. well, it's a gizmo, but a rather ancient one. thank you, brian.
Well, I know what this is, too! I learned to type on a manual -- typed on the IBM Selectrics (with the balls) for YEAR (and still have one!!!). Ah, the good ole day s(HA!). My fastest timed test was 110. I generally typed 90 -- so you fly by me, girl!
