st. george-the-martyr anglican church

architecture week of black and white february

this is the spire of St. George the Martyr Anglican Church, a gothic style church built in 1844, along with the rectory (built in 1865) and a school (built in 1875). the church suffered a disastrous fire in 1955 but the church tower was saved and is now considered one of the landmarks around downtown toronto. the school was converted into a place of worship and a landscaped garden was built around the nave of the old church.

i realized just last night that for a few years i used to go to this church on friday nights for 'storytelling' meets. i have not been around this church during the day until yesterday.

a close up of the door of the tower is here: http://365project.org/summerfield/365-still/2013-02-04
