this is the tower of st. andrew's church, dwarfed by the kaleidoscope of business towers and condominiums in the centre of the financial district.
the building was built in 1876, a "Scottish Romanesque church that became known as New St. Andrew's. This building was designed by noted Toronto architect W. G. Storm and the church was the central Presbyterian church in Toronto, with an addition and renovation in 1906. It and became especially well known under the ministry of renowned orator Rev. D. J. Macdonnell (1870-1896) who pushed the church towards an active social role, and was the centre of a heresy trial in 1876, a minor bump in the recently-formed Presbyterian Church in Canada. King and Simcoe became the central intersection of Toronto. The four corners popularly said to represent the four parts of society: Salvation, the church; Legislation the Lieutenant-Governor's Residence; Education, the original home of Upper Canada College; and damnation, a tavern." - wikipedia.org
it was quite difficult to photograph this church as it just blended with the newer buildings, although i have previously photographed this when it was raining and it was a standout, but not so today, so i had to resort to blurring out the nearby building to make the tower standout just a bit.
Fav!!!! The blur is superb and really directs your attention to the tower!!! Thanks for the follow, have just rescued 2 months worth of 365 mail from the spam so am slowly catching up!!!
great capture! cool effect with blurring out the background! makes the tower stand out and at the same time makes it look like a miniature set (in a good way)
very nicely done! love that tiny flag flying at the top :)
tried to call you at lunch today... but you didn't pick up and i was on my cell phone and of course didn't know my own cell number (i hate talking on the phone).... :( tomorrow may get eaten up with a planned lunch at work... not sure yet what will happen...
