was to go in a back alley and photograph graffiti. to me, it's just the impression that it is not safe to be around there, and back alleys are the natural place for large garbage bins so naturally there would be a big stink. surprisingly within that almost three blocks of alley way we walked yesterday, the smells were confined inside the bins. well, maybe because it's the winter and the freezing cold of the past weeks would have tempered off the smell. but mostly, i was there because i know i was in good company so it was a rather enjoyable experience. but i think they could see i was a quite wary.
mary beth @espyetta asked if it was really colourful back there. the answer is, yes it was. take this one building for example. as you can see, MB, the whole building is covered in colourful graffiti arts, and that is just one building. and there were side alleys, too, short cuts to the main roads on both sides.
thank you so much for your kind views, comments and favs on yesterday's photo of the girls shooting their model; was quite chuffed when someone phoned me to tell me my photo was on the pp.
You had no need to be worried! Anyone that you would say was "not safe" saw your squad coming, cameras in hand, and ran off! haha! This is SO colorful! That is professional 'grafiti" I guess since it is all the way up the building. You'd have to put up scaffold and work for days to do that!
@espyetta - the main roads north of this alley is the arts and fashion districts of toronto. yes, for this building it has to be professional graffiti art. and it's not just the spray and run kind of thing. surprisingly, i did like some of them. thank you, MB.
There is safety in numbers- it was good that you all went in there. Not so good if you were alone- but I'm sure you'd already figured that out!! Looks like a cool place to be with a photo group taking shots.
@olivetreeann - no, i wouldn't have gone there alone. maybe it wasn't so bad because it was early in the day and anyone who had business being there is still asleep. or maybe because it's winter so there's not a lot of souls hovering around there. but you;re right, i'd go there only with a group. i think i enjoyed watching and shooting them do their stuff. thank you, ann.
another fantastic capture, so colorful, creative and fun. so wish i had a group of people to go out shooing with - am going to make a call to my sister and see what she is up to!
cool shot! great that you were able to get it all into the frame... the art on those buildings was really amazing, wasn't it? it felt perfectly comfortable being there in a big group - not sure how it would be on your own... or at night!! yikes!
