"tell her you care, each time you speak,
make it her birthday each day of the week,
bring her nice things, sugar an' spice things,
roses and lollipops,
and lollipops and roses.
one day she’ll smile, next day she’ll cry,
minute to minute, you’ll never know why!
coax her, pet her, better yet get her,
roses and lollipops,
and lollipops and roses.
we try acting grown up, but as a rule,
we’re all little children, fresh from school.
so, carry her books, that’s how it starts,
fourteen to forty, they’re kids in their hearts
keep them handy, flowers an' candy,
roses and lollipops,
and lollipops and roses."
- Tony Velona, composer
wow! that song is really old. i remember a boy in grade school always wanting to walk with me and offering to carry my books when he also had the same number of books. but i was lazy ass so i let him - tee-hee!
i remember the singer jack jones coming to manila and this song was one of his most popular. there was another boy who would pluck all the roses from the homes' gardens on the road going to the public school and he'd always give me one but i always ended up with scratches because the thorns were brutally sharp. i told him can he give me something else instead so he stole the african daisies he could find. then i got in trouble because the owners thought i was the one who stole the flowers from their gardens! ngek!
these are called 'sweetheart roses' and it so happened i have three lollies in my purse, from when partner and i had dinner at east side mario's last wednesday.
if the orchid is the queen of flowers, the rose is the empress.
there goes the may flowers challenge. thank you, ann
@olivetreeann for this most enjoyable challenge, i'm pretty sure those garden owners around my neighbourhood would miss me.
