the value of the familiar

"how unfortunate that we don't respond with wonder every day to the magnificence of the English ivy."

i saw this ivy protruding out of the large mass of plant. as i took this shot, it brought to mind the above passage from freeman patterson's "photography and the art of seeing" which is the subject book of Katie's @archaeofrog book club this month.

i might be an exception because i do marvel at the ivy's beauty. always. this is not exactly the english ivy but ivy nonetheless. i especially like it when there are new growths at the end of the tendril, asserting themselves to stand out from the rest of the larger older leaves, themselves taking in the air and light they need to survive.

tagging this, too, for the camera settings challenge of natural bokehs.

thank you for your kind views and comments; i appreciate them sincerely.

I too like the ivy with its range of colours even within one leaf. But my hubby pulls all the roots out with w vengeance! Smothering everything, he mumbles!

This ivy does actually look nice, better than the dark green one that grows on the wall in my garden! I like the natural bokeh, nice shot.

don't you just love the progression of the tiny leaf-to-be at the end to the fully grown one on the right? well done!
