oh, industry! by summerfield

oh, industry!

I am the captain and this is my shrine.
Lord of the manor. see what I leave behind.
River in flames, cities on fire.
Yes, I'm a relic trapped in the wire.

Hydrogen fuel, it burns so clean,
Throbs in the veins; a mother lovin' machine.
She is my wife. her mechanical heart
Constantly serving 'til death do us part.

Now a glorious war draws to a close.
The yellow winds blow. and I have to know.
Oh industry, whatever will become of me?
Soon the cruel rains will start.
Is it true we must part company?
Oh industry, whatever will become of me?
What have I ever done?
Where did I go wrong?

Joined at the hip; pain, hunger and i,
Leave our gift to the world 'neath the phosphorous sky.
A labor of love is the truest of all.
But will I be forsaken after the fall?

Now a glorious war draws to a close.
The yellow winds blow. and I have to know.
Oh industry, whatever will become of me?
Nothing after the flood but the fire and the mud's prophecy.
Oh industry, whatever will become of me?
Of me?

Industry, charity, faith, hope.
Industry, charity, faith, hope.
Industry, charity, faith, hope.
Industry, charity, faith, hope.
Industry, charity, faith, hope.

this is one of the hamilton steel mills as seen from the skyway en route to the niagara peninsula. whenever we pass this portion of the highway, the song "oh, industy!" from the movie 'beaches' always comes to mind. on saturday it was so cold that the part of the lake near hamilton's shore was covered in ice but for this portion near the steel mills. the smoke is thick from the severe cold. if you look closely, you can see the fire coming from the factory.

hamilton is also known as the "steel city". 60% of canada's steel is produced here, by Stelco and Dofasco companies.

taken while in a car going at 118 kmph (probably more).

thank you for your kind views and comments; they are much appreciated.
neat capture!!

Strangely attractive despite the obvious pollution

The cold air does have a way of "freezing' the smoke doesn't it? My memory tells me the air is not too sweet smelling around this area.

This shot has a gritty and bleak feeling to it- goes well with the poem. Excellent industrial shot.
