i'm so glad i went out at lunch to take photos. i actually forgot about the challenge but something pulled my feet to walk around st. james' cathedral and saw the etched arches of the cathedral's altar so vivid from the street. i mean this is a large cathedral and that altar has to be at least a block from where i stood. i love this entrance door, the details of that archway i had posted during my first year here http://365project.org/summerfield/365/2011-03-03 and some its windows and spires had all been featured here previously.
sometime after i got back to the office, the storms started and by the time i went home at 7, there was no subway service due to flooding and the bottom of our building got flooded so we couldn't go anywhere; it was also pouring rain.
i prepared myself to stay at the office as late as i could imagine. the young associates who were working could not order food and all i could offer them was a bag of potato chips, organic and kettle cooked, whatever that meant. i had an expired package of nissin ramen and i actually prepared it and was sipping in the soup when partner called. he was going to pick me up two blocks east of the office so i should prepare to walk up. heck, i was all set and logged on to 365 to do commenting but i had to log out again in a rush.
some forty-five minutes later i was soaking wet when i got in the car. by the time we got home, there was another storm raging and as of ten the whole city was shut down from flooding in strategic areas.
wonderful capture, I really like the architecture that you have captured but as an added bonus you have also shown the stained glass window encouraging me to wander around inside. brilliant
Wow, so glad you got this at lunchtime....judging from the fantastic lighting it is hard to believe it stormed that evening! Very nice shot, and partner sounds like a doll... :-)
@maggiemae - it was particularly bad, the storm. 90 mm of rain in two hours. normally we get and average of 75mm for the whole of july. train tracks were flooded and 1,400 people were evacuated from a train; one of the girls in the office was one of them and she was taken out of the train at 2 in the morning. 50,000 homes still have no electricity. and more storm is being predicted for tonight and tomorrow. thank you, maggiemae.
@salza - thank you, sally. half of my backroom had water damage and a box of old books that belonged to partner's mother got it bad. i was almost in tears when i saw it last night when we arrived home. the carpet, too, was just installed in the fall. but at least we had electricity still.
@olivetreeann - oh, believe me, i wanted to do that so desperately, but i already motioned for one of the elders to move aside and he did move out of the view so i thought it would've been too much. thank you, ann.
