or less. a family sleeps on the pavement just outside a business establishment. we see so many of these displaced families around the vicinity of the house where we are staying. it is a continuing problem for the residents - waking up in the morning to find that the gates of their properties had been occupied by the migrants. they live like it is their home and most times the residents have to call the police to remove them because they simply won't move out of the way.
it is a sad way of life, but you're damned if you help them or they would wait for handouts everyday and sometimes they could be demanding and quite aggressive. the losers are the children of course. they weave through heavy traffic to ask for handouts and alms. when they get hit, the parents would see it as a meal ticket, if the child dies, a little bit more could be had if they're lucky, nothing if they're not.
i will be getting a bad rap from some of my friends who would see this. i did in the past. but this is life's reality in this country. but when you watch television, or go to the malls, you wouldn't think that a mere three blocks away, there is a family living in the street..
sooc; another drive by shooting. i prefer for the subjects to not see me taking their pics or they'd be demanding big sums of money.
Sad, sad reality. Sometimes I wonder when our politicians will stop all the nonsense bickering and focus on what needs attention instead. Look at the Vhong Navarro case, it became a matter of national interest, darn! And all other important issues are forgotten because of it. Haayyy....
Unfortunately this is a sad reality of life, worldwide. Also if you are seen taking their picture they will often demand cash which can lead to ugly confrontations.
Using children as pawns to get ahead in life happens here too- although we gloss it over call it by different names- even train them to continue on the tradition for generations to come! But you are absolutely right. No matter which way you look at it, the children are the biggest losers. Sad but honest shot.
