now i know how to turn an ugly selfie into something more tolerable: overlay it with graffiti! but perhaps it also depends on the colours of the graffiti.
this one we came upon last monday when
@northy,
@mara19500 and i were coming back to downtown toronto from casa loma to continue our photographic pursuits. because, you know, we were supposed to be professional photographers because we happen to have big black cameras and tripods!!! what the eff you ask?
well, barely two weeks ago,
@northy and i were accosted at the hart house at the university of toronto when we were trying to do our ghostly photo shoots (heck, did i miss posting on that challenge? i got plenty of shots for that!). the security guy told us they don't allow professional photography without permit (pay a fee, that's what it means). we explained to the security guy that we are students of photography, that we were doing this for artistic pursuits (northy's explanation), and that the cameras were on sale for cheap (mine, tee-hee!). well, to him they were professional photogs' cameras and also because we were using tripods. so we were booted out of that building but he said we were free to roam about the rest of the campus.
well, note that while we were setting up, i saw flashes coming from a camera which was neither northy's nor mine. then i looked out and below on the steps was a guy with much bigger camera and a giant lens attached to it taking pics of a couple. engagement shoot, i reckon. i told security that that was for commercial shooting, unlike us. nonetheless, it was that photog that was booted out before us.
now, back to last monday. we went to this chic bistro/bar called panorama on the 51st floor of the manulife building uptown. while we can take photos from their patios, they do not allow the use of tripods. why? because they do not allow professional photography. which means we can shoot all we want, just without the use of tripods.
maybe i should carry copies of my photos to show then maybe they'd realize they're not professional quality. tee-hee!
you've read this far? why, thank you. you're so sweet.

@678tabby - thank you, june. see below, i'm giving a description to mara.
@claireuk - thank you, my good friend claire. it seems this is catching on. i don't understand,. because people use their iPhone or smart phones all the time to take pictures anywhere and anytime and the people who manage those places are surely dumb to think that photos taken especially with an iphone can also be used commercially.
@mara19500 - hi, bellissima! thank you. i did this using ribbet.com, as it is an easier program for me. first you upload a photo with white or very light background. then you click that little green strip at the bottom of the screen that says "photo basket"; upload a second photo that you want to overlay in this case i uploaded the photo of the graffiti. when the photo has uploaded, drag it onto the first photo. a small pallette or board called "photo properties" will pop up. then you can play with the 'advanced blend modes' however you want your photo to look. capisce? :-) hello to our friend angela!
