round like a circle in a spiral
like a wheel within a wheel
never ending no beginning
on an ever spinning wheel
like a snowball down a mountain
or a carnival balloon
like a carousel that's turning
running rings around the moon
like a clock whose hands are sweeping
past the minutes of its face
and the world is like an apple
whirling silently in space
like the circles that you find
in the windmills of your mind
like a tunnel that you follow
through a tunnel of its own
down a hallow to a cavern
where the sun has never shone
like a door that keeps revolving
in a half-forgotten dream
or the ripples from a pebble
someone tosses in a stream
like a clock whose hands are sweeping
past the minutes of its face
and the world is like an apple
whirling silently in space
like the circles that you find
in the windmills of your mind
keys a-jingle in your pocket
words that jangle in your head
why did summer go so quickly
was it something that you said
lovers walk along the shore and
leave their footprints in the sand
is the sound of distant drumming
just the fingers of your hand
pictures hanging in a hallway
and the fragments of a song
half-remembered names and faces
but to whom do they belong
when you knew that it was over
you were suddenly aware that
the autumn leaves were turning
to the colour of his hair
like a circle in a spiral
like a wheel within a wheel
never ending no beginning
on an ever spinning wheel
as the images unwind
like the circles that you find
in the windmills of your mind.

my get pushed challenge this week, set by the young brianna
@lilminimonka, is "to capture a photo inspired by a favourite song. You can use a line from it, the title, etc. as inspiration!"
i'd have wanted shots of a clock's innards but can't find any. nor of windmills, i know i have one somewhere. the shells gave me some inspiration, but not after i buggered everyone to find me a building with a spiral staircase, which of course didn't pan out. then looking at last night's post, i realized the one shell had the spiral marks and there was another cute shell that i used. then i threw in the old photos of the earth and the little clock faces. of course, this would've worked a lot better if i knew how to use photoshop or knew someone who could photoshop craps like this for me.
anywho, i need to speak to our visitors who just came back from a day of gallivanting around toronto and while i'm doing that, you can listen to sting with this wonderful ditty.
