this was an accidental find. we were on our way to maine having been disappointed with vermont. for some reason, the car's gps couldn't find the covered bridges that we were supposed to see. in one we ended up in the middle of a forest, and the other one just wasn't there. we decided we would just proceed to maine but gps got lost again and we somehow ended up at a new hampshire info centre. when i mentioned to the gentleman manning the desk, he shook his head and produced an illustrated map showing the whereabouts of NH's covered bridges and declaring that NH is way better than vermont!
off we drove on so we could see at least two or three on the way to maine and before it got dark. then we spotted that stately white building with red roof, starkly beautiful against the greenery and the mountain range. we just had to turn around - it was a lot more interesting than any covered bridge (especially that we were disappointed with the first NH covered bridge we found later on). there was a lookout point and there were only a couple of cars parked. needless to say, we all were like children giddy with excitement on Christmas eve!
don't hold me to it, but i think the left peak is mount madison and the right peak is mount adams.
thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are greatly appreciated.
Covered bridges can be tricky. I mostly accept them as I trip across them. In back of you is the Motel that is part of the resort and my dh and I stayed there a few times. It is fun to have tea on the veranda of the resort. You probably would have been happier taking pictures there. And there is a moose head inside. Fabulous place.
What a great spot for a hotel!! I guess before beach resorts became popular people would vacation in spots like this with rivers and green valleys, and mountains behind, and take in the fresh air!! Beautiful setting, gorgeous building...what hotel was it?!
Are you traveling together again? You're always on the go! Too bad I didn't know you were going to be in Vermont and looking for covered bridges. I know a couple- not sure the roads you take to get to them though. NH people always say they're better than Vt. and vice versa. Don't believe either of them! haha
