abandoned

but not really. these malting silos belonged to the Canada Malting Company and were built in 1928. at the time it was an important work of industrial architecture and an innovation; grain elevators used to be made of wood and thus were in great danger of fire. a bit of the setting sun can almost be seen through the grain elevators right in the middle of the structure. the silos and its offices were abandoned in early 1980's and were scheduled for demolition but the site was designated by the city of toronto as a heritage site. these are located in toronto's harbourfront right across the island airport.

for the 52-week challenge, this week we are to "capture an image of that which others have forgotten."

sorry, folks, i'm being sidelined by vertigo yet again. this afternoon, i felt a bit better and took a taxi downtown to get this photo as i still can't do a walkabout just to find an abandoned structure. this is the only site i could think of offhand.
Really sorry to hear that vertigo has affected you. Hope you feel better. Excellent shot and interesting history of this place.

Yikes, vertigo is no fun. I've been similarly affected a few times this past year as I seem to have been afflicted with a thing called Miniere's disease. Looking through a lens doesn't do much to help, huh? Get better quick my friend.
