drive

bet you didn't know a VW beetle can sit 12?

here's a car story.

in high school, i had a classmate, edna, who came from a well-off family. flashy kid, big mouth, arrogant, but no brain. she'd bring me cakes and chocolate so i'd teach her how to do our algebra assignment. it's frustrating to tutor a brainless person. but her mother made the best cake so...

she had a cousin who drove a banana yellow beetle. oscar, he was my first crush, beautiful eyes, lean body, james dean hair, laid back, smart but lazy. one day, he said let's go to the ice cream parlour and have peach melba. the ice cream parlour happened to be in the next town, about half an hour drive. he's driving, edna and i were in the front, while at the back three very pretty girls from the catholic girl's school who were neighbours, four guys who had a crush on the three girls, edna's 10-year old sister sitting with us in front and a sister of one of the guys.

on the drive, as noisy as the group was in that cramped little beetle, we heard the rambling of a stomach. clarissa, the prettiest of the catholic school girls - dark brown hair, deep brown eyes, smooth milky white complexion (she was called "camay girl" because she auditioned for the camay soap commercial but didn't make it) was the quietest.

driving uphill, about five minutes away from the ice cream parlour, there was a smell. faint at first, then as if a garbage truck had dumped its most odious garbage, the whole car smelled of the most foul odour. someone farted.

oscar slammed on the brake, swearing and cursing. our door jammed for a brief while and edna, her sister and i couldn't get out fast enough while the boys behind were trying to push our seat so they could get out. one of the boys barfed while getting out.

clarissa was left in the car, tears streaming down her pretty face. she couldn't leave the car. she had an accident.

i took the bus going home together with two of the boys and edna and her sister. oscar had to call his big brother to come get the car and clarissa. his big brother had a big crush on clarissa.

i don't remember what and how happened aftewards, but oscar avoided driving for a long time; clarissa vanished, supposedly staying with her aunt in another village; and i never again rode in an overcrowded car.

This is a great high key shot that goes great with your hysterical story!
Not sure what I want to do for the flash of red this week though I really should decide so I have a direction for this month. I prefer it when challenges come with specific directions so I don't have to decide!

Great photo, and story. Reminds me of driving my father's Mazda GLC (Great Little Car) with way too many people jammed in it.

Though I do feel sad for Clarissa. She was probably scarred for life.

got one like that, though perhaps not quite as funny, involving eight people crowded in a little sedan and children who stepped in dogshit just before entering the car, kicked it all over the seats, and it was about 5 below zero so airing out the car for the 15 mile trip was a problem. My cousin just started laughing. I said, this isn't funny. She explained that it was so not funny that all you do was laugh.
