i broke the 'C' thermometer which i've been using since my little boy was a baby, and what's left is this 'F' thermometer i assume was from ex-partner's mother. this is one of the most difficult objects to photograph, at least for me.
i remember when we were young children back in the old country, we loved it when a thermometer broke. we'd throw away the glass but keep the mercury to play with. sometimes i even put it in my mouth, watch it split into many little beads then i'd spit it on my palm and the beads would move to form one big bead. of course it gave me horrors in later years to find out that that was bad. who knew if i'd actually swallowed some of it. it could've been the cause of the severe anemia that plagued me in my 20's. ah, lesson learned, n'est-ce pas?
for the mundane object challenge, the object is thermometer.
Hadn't thought of the difficulty of this, but now that you mention it.....you certainly photographed it well. And, of course, it now goes into that "photo to do some day" file.
Great shot! I too used to play with mercury. I had a little maze that had a mercury blob in it and you could flip and flop the plastic enclosure to coax the blob around. I got angry one day and smashed it on the ground, and the blob turned into little tiny mercury droplets and scattered like cockroaches. Never got to experience it quite to the degree that you did! Oh, and I love that song!
This is a terrific close-up shot for the mundane challenge. I gasped when I read what you did with that mercury in your mouth. Really glad there were no long-term serious effects from that for you.
Fabulous song for the song title too.
Great shot but your narrative really scared me! We used to play with mercury in our hands as well (didn't know better) but never thought to put it in our mouths - we weren't smart enough to think of that or we would have! LOL!
We used to love to play with the mercury from broken thermometers, but I don't think we ever put it into our mouths. I remember being very disappointed when they went to that red stuff- no more fun silvery beads to play with when those broke.
Fabulous song for the song title too.
