finally had the courage to open one of the boxes for purging. it was the box containing my souvenirs and photos from my cruise of the caribbean many years ago. found my half a dozen medals for winning the "name that tune" challenge, songs and movies challenge, original artist song challenge, one-hit wonders challenge. my sister and i to the amazement of the people on board the ship actually knew so many obscure songs. the hard core old-school musicians certainly knew the songs but because most of the songs did not become popular in north america or the states, they were nonetheless popular and even hits in manila.
and one of the souvenirs in the box was this mini beer porcelain stein i bought on a whim when we went on a land tour of nassau. i used to collect shot glasses and when i go to a certain place, i sure liked to keep a memento. now i got to get rid of them because there are just so many! although i could be one of those eccentrics with too many knick knacks on the window sill.
there's a flamingo on the drawing so why not shoot it for flamingo friday since i don't have anything else? hah!
Knick Knacks are my downfall ...so so many ...but how do you let go of the memoirs? Maybe a snap shot ? Did you visit all those islands on your cruise ?
I have boxes that were packed nearly 20 years ago that have moved with us around three times and have yet to be opened! Maybe this winter I will finally get around to opening them and get rid of the contents.
I'm another with too many boxes. I moved in here in 1996 and haven't opened all the boxes at first because the toddlers would break the nick backs but now those toddlers have toddlers. I wish I had the time and skill to narrate a video of all the memories and then let the tokens go
@pandorasecho - i have at least 10 boxes of my old manuscripts. a few years ago, i had the good intention of buying a scanner to scan them and throw the paper prints away. but the scanner is a slow moving machine and i got tired of it. i couldn't do them in the office because the results go through emails and emails are 'permanently' stored. so i have now just nine and a half boxes of manuscripts, as well as other boxes filling up a whole room.
@summerfield when I scanned one manuscript, 252 pages, it was long and still misread a lot, numbers got scrambled, and "came" in the old font scanned as "carne" every time.
Purging is hard so i admire you but it is still fun to revisit and remember one last time. So many memories attached to this photo and now it takes up much less space than the object itself
Totally cuteness! I can't believe how many of us there are who all seem to be into purging "stuff" at this same time! The realization finally sets in..."Who's going to want it when I'm gone?!!!"
