i am not a fan of HDR especially that i couldn't remember how it's done in photoshop. i've done it once, but as you know, if you don't use it, you lose it. my nikon has a dedicated button for HDR - takes two photos and it comes out ugly, like a fake alien has landed or some such. that said, i've seen photos that had been HDR'd in photoshop or lightroom and they were quite nice. maybe the photos were nice to begin with, i don't know. but i am still not a fan.
this was HDR'd in ribbet but reduced the strength from the recommended 198% to just 54 and brought the fade slider to 50%, so that it has more definition but only to slightly enhance the image. however, if i processed the raw image, i'm sure i would have get a better definition and clarity.
for the one week only challenge; today's fare is HDR. i hope some of you are better skilled at this than i am. see here: https://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/31340/one-week-only-2 if i didn't tag you about this, i do apologize and please let me know if you wish to be tagged next time. however, you can still play for the rest of this week or on a week when you are groping for inspiration and motivation.
disclosure: this was taken sometime in march; this view is from the humber bay bridge in toronto's west end.
Very nice my friend I especially love the bird hovering over the lake even though I'm surprised there is only one. Maybe his friend didn't get up so early like you. LOL FAV
I must be missing something. To use HDR in photoshop, don't you just select it from the menu and then mess around with the sliders? No, I know I am missing something - I don't even know what to do with raw files. Such an amateur me. Well I'm loving the challenge - just what was needed thank you. Your HDR Toronto skyline looks pretty cool - but I guess to do this exercise meaningfully, we need to be taking non HDR as well and then checking which results are better. Your hunch that you could deal with it better by doing your own processing is most probably correct. Sorry....I seem to have gone on to a ramble.
@helenhall - hdr in photoshop is much different from the one-button hdr in ribbet or other free online programs. i couldn't find which photo I've posted last year using hdr in photoshop, but i remember that there was only a scintilla of noise compared to the ones processed in ribbet. also, had i opted to process the raw (i take raw and jpg with my camera) file of this in photoshop, i would get the same clarity and sharpness without the much-annoying noise you see in this processed shot. thanks, Helen.
@cathrinemitch - this is actually a sunset shot. the two little dots on the left edge of the shot are of seagulls, but the bird on the right is a goose looking for its flock of equally obnoxious geese. :-D thanks, my friend.
