an exercise in futility by summerfield

an exercise in futility

i've been going to the allen gardens now for the eight years that i've been trying to have some kind of intelligent grasp on photography. while i have some little success and still a lot of epic fails, nothing that i've ever poked my camera at frustrates me more than this flower.

i don't know what it's called -- never found a tag at the gardens for it. when i thought i had found the name, when i googled it it's not this flower. this is a tall plant, more than a metre and the flowers grow in small clusters, about the size of a child's fist so you can imagine how small this individual flower is. the futility comes in the difficulty to get a sharper image because it's so tiny, which of course i could blame on my ineptness at using my camera. so i tried to shoot it using my raynox macro filter. a few shots was all i could manage (with my dwindling temperament) and this is the most passable. another frustration is that the colours don't register well on the camera, tried all 3 brands of cameras i own and i couldn't capture its real colour, processing or no processing.

i don't know if this meets the "step back" technical prompt for the 52-week challenge, because as usual i don't know a thing about photography and camera and photoshop, so tagging this as such and also because i am so done with it.

i had a thought in the middle of work today -- i'd take a course in photography when i retire next year. heard tuition is free for old folks over 65 and retired. even if that's just hearsay, i thought why not? then of course my alter ego responded why so? so egos, we'll get there when we get there.
It is a pretty little flower. I've never seen one like it, so I am no help. I think you captured it well. Is it really purpke? I find purple a very hard color to capture. One day, may be I'll take a camera course too. It maybe a course in PhotoShop. I really need that. I am no good at the online videos.

You are so funny, it's like reading a book . You have so many wonderful shots of which I would be proud to have. As Jackie says, you are definitely being too hard on yourself. Win some, lose some ;-)

Your pictures and narrative brighten so many lives. So quit being so hard on your talent.

You have mad amazing skills and talents not only in photography but in writing too. You create amazing images right out of whichever camera you use and process others with incredible vision without the aid of
PS I am not sure what you expect to achieve but any photographer will tell you they take tons of shots and think most of them are no good. That is the sign of a true talent!
This one, by the way is terrific

Don't put yourself down re: photographic skills. Sometimes the focus is so difficult. I struggle with this becasue I don't see clearly, because I'm too lazy to use my tripod, because the wind is blowing, because I won't use manual focus (because I don't see very clearly), because....
