she paints her face to hide a face;
her eyes are deep water
it is not for geisha to want
it is not for geisha to feel
geisha is an artist of a floating world
she dances, she sings
she entertains you, whatever you want
the rest is shadows, the rest is secrets
- memoirs of a geisha
methinks i've already exhausted my props. but meetings and work kept me occupied the whole day and, even when i planned i'd go to michael's at lunch, there was a meeting with free lunch, and nobody should ever turn down food. so kokeshi dolls to the rescue. is there contrast here? you tell me.
yes there is contrast. I keep hearing that black and white photos should have both extremes of the scale. You have both, and some in the middle. Loved to read the memoirs extract with your illustration.
This is what it brought to mind for me:
Three little maids from school are we
Pert as a school-girl well can be
Filled to the brim with girlish glee
Three little maids from school!
----from Gilbert & Sullivan's The Mikado
Three little maids from school are we
Pert as a school-girl well can be
Filled to the brim with girlish glee

Wow, there's even contrast in the reflection.
